Operafest group to sing in Spain
SPAIN 's Canary Island will be the venue of the next overseas performance by the Operafest Children' Choir (OCC) in June 2004.
"We will be performing under the invitation of the Chamber Choir of Giovani Bardi," says OCC founder-director Kam Sun-Yoke.
"We have not finalised the items for our show there but we intend to include some Spanish songs as it would please the audience there."
Kam, who founded OCC in 1986, said they are preparing for their latest annual concert series to be staged at the PJ Civic Centre during the school holidays at the end of this year.
"We will perform West Side Story, the Broadway musical by Leonard Bernstein that was made into an Oscar-winning movie in 1961," she said.
"It has become an annual tradition for us to perform at the PJ Civic Centre."
Over the years, OCC had performed many Broadway hits, notably those by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, like South Pacific and Flower Drum Song.
Kam said OCC has performed in more than 40 festivals and competitions around the world, including in the US, Europe, and Australia.
Their most recent trip was to Montana, US, in the 6th International Choral Festival on July 16 to 20, where 25 of the 40 members took part.
"OCC was one of 20 choral groups chosen by the organiser, out of an international list of 150 choral groups," she said. |
