MCA organising unique fund raiser

THE Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) will be organising a fund raiser with a difference - a musical presentation by the world acclaimed Operafest Children's Choir - on Dec 7 at the Petaling Jaya Civic Centre as part of their efforts to raise money for junior development in the country.
And the proceeds from the musical extravaganza will be channelled to the soon to be launched Education Fund which MCA will use to assist young players to further their studies.
"Junior cricket development is the priority for MCA and as such, we need funds to implement the activities," said MCA chairman Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar in Wisma OCM on Friday.
"And in order to produce players to represent the country at national and international level, we must first have the base to choose the players from."
In fact, according to Tunku Imran, junior development is the key to the future, hence the decision to hold the musical night on Dec 7.
The Operafest Children's Choir have won accolades the world over with their performance in the various international competitions and comprises 40 talented students.
At the Koor Festival of Holland, dubbed the Singing Olympics, the group were placed third in the light music category while at the Llangollen Eisteddfod competition in Wales, they were placed second.
"Much emphasis is given for sports excellence in the country but very often, the musical education aspect is forgotten," said it's director Kam Sun-Yoke.
"However, this event provides the fans with the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds."
The choir group will present Carmen, a well known play by Georges Bizet and tickets are priced at RM100, RM50 and RM30.
