Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir becomes PM (NST, July 17, 1981) DATUK Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad today became Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister in a 10-minute ceremony at Istana Negara this morning (above). The signing of the oath of office was witnessed by Acting Lord President Raja Tan Sri Azlan Shah and the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Hashim Aman.
Malaysia for UN panel on Kampuchea (NST, July 19, 1981) MALAYSIA and Thailand were among countries appointed by the United Nations conference on Kampuchea to an ad hoc committee on Kampuchea in a resolution adopted today.

Kudos for children's choir (MM, July 19, 1991) A GROUP of Malaysian children proved that they have the ability to please with their voices and perform well at an international children's competition. The Operafest Children's Choir (shown here at Subang Airport on their triumphant return) placed third in the light music category at the Dutch Festival, the first-ever achievement for a Malaysian choir group in an international contest.
Guide on QCC activities (NST, July 19, 1991) THE Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers has published a guidebook entitled A Guide to QCC Activities to promote manufacturing excellence in the country. The guidebook, the first of a series of FMM business guides, was written to explain the term ` Quality Control Circle' and to provide a practical guide to foremen and operators in layman's terms and explains the need for QCCs.
Unicef praise for our child care (NST, July 19, 1991) MALAYSIA 'S record in taking care of the needs of its children has been inspiring and instructive for other countries, as well as the international community concerned with the future of children, Unicef deputy executive director Dr Richard Jolly said today. In this context, he said, it is fitting that Malaysia takes an active and leading role in reviewing the commitments and recommendations of the World Summit for Children to be held in September in New York. |
